Why Silence is Power

A while ago, I stumbled across a quote on Instagram:
“It takes a human two years to learn to talk, and sixty years to learn to be silent.”
At first, I didn’t really get it. As someone who has always been an oversharer, silence felt uncomfortable — almost unnatural. But the more I sat with that quote, the more it made sense.
I started to realize that success in any area of life often requires silence. Not everyone has your best interest at heart. We share our dreams thinking people will cheer for us, but often the opposite happens. Sometimes, when you speak too soon, things never come to fruition — they get clouded by doubts, opinions, and energy that weighs you down.
I’ve learned that silence is a kind of protection. When you stop talking so much about what you’re doing and start quietly working on it, the results speak louder than words ever could.
And silence has another gift — it teaches you to listen. Not the kind of listening where you’re just waiting for your turn to reply, but the deeper kind where you actually hear what people are saying. In that stillness, I’ve discovered truths about others… and about myself.
Maybe that’s the real art of shutting up — protecting your peace, tuning out the noise, and learning that you don’t need to announce every step of your journey.
Another thought from the chaotic mind.
